Hello Everyone.
I know you probably navigated here to find a quick “connect this here, connect that there” guide to installing a car stereo, If thats what you are looking for you are Definately in the wrong place and i suggest you go back to google and search again.
However, if you are looking for Advice and ideas from professional car Audio Installers and Enthusiasts, i suggest you hang around here and see what we have to say.
OK, so, you want to install a aftermarket stereo in your car, but don’t know where to start? Allow me to make some suggestions.
Before you run out and buy all the pretty stuff you see, sit down, work out what sort of stereo you really want (ie. do you want one sub, some splits in the front and just some basic speakers for the back because you know you never sit in the back, so who cares what the back sounds like, Or do you want to go all out and get that Ground shaking window flexing bass, along with all the fruit to produce a high-quality SQ System),
Then head down and talk with your local car audio shop, (these guys are generally professionals they know the latest and greatest products and what will do what you want, and really what won’t)
However i suggest (if you haven’t had much experience in this industry) do the shop around, visit a few different Companies and compare what they say, Simple rule of thumb is, different shops provide different products, and its their job to sell what they have, not promote products they don’t have.
Once you have done this you should have a fair idea of the products you require, and the estimated cost for these products, along with the estimated Install costs involved.
Start Saving.
If you realise you don’t have the money required to do what you want, then start saving, DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT do things half arsed, and don’t “Just buy what you can afford” because in the end, you will have to replace it with something worth purchasing anyways.
REMEMBER: If you are technically minded, have Experience in installing car Stereos/Electronics, or know the fundamentals of Automotive electronics, you can probably save yourself a fair bit of money doing the installation yourself.
HOWEVER, i DO NOT suggest you just “try” install your car audio Equipment with no knowledge of what you are doing, or just because you feel you “can” do it, i understand most people have this “can-do” Attitude, but when it comes to electronics the “can-do” approach can end up costing you ALOT of money when you realise you “can’t-do” what you originally believe you “could-do”.
There are extra Perks of getting a professional Car Audio Installation company to install your components, to start with.. You don’t have to do shit, you take your car in, they put everything in Using high quality products and they do it with the know-how you require to get an awesome sound out of your new investment, to top that off their installations Generally come with a warranty & also when an autorized installer does the work, you won’t VOID your manafacuter warranty either.
One thing most people do not realise is, that if they purchase a product and install it themselves, they do not get a warranty, i have seen a fair few Manufactures who state in their fine-print that installation must be done by a authorized installer and a receipt (for the installation) must be provided for warranty claims on their products.
Which in my opinion is very bad practice, however i’m lucky enough to be good mates with the Owner of my local caraudio shop (well isn’t my local shop now, but ill still travel the distance to know ill get professional and fair service), and he knows i know what im doing, so if i ever need to claim a warranty its pretty easy to get what i need to do so.
Thats the End of Part One, Part Two will be up ASAP, i just need sleep now.
What to look forward to in “Car Stereo Installation Guide (Part Two)”
In Part Two we will look more into the installation side of things, What you can should do before installing a stereo, things you can do yourself before taking your car into the shop to save yourself money and more.
